JOSH GILBERT
Born in Venice, California in 1980, Josh was on the go from the time he could walk. He became involved in sports at the age of 3 when he started riding dirt bikes with his father. From that point forward Josh was up and down the coast of Southern California, playing football in school or volleyball at the beach, life-guarding, surfing and riding motorcycles in the dirt or on the track. His involvement with such physical pursuits gave him a great appreciation and interest in the way the body works and how to get it to function at its highest potential.
After graduating high school and investigating several career options, Josh decided to pursue a career in the healing arts - a logical decision coming from a family that includes three licensed massage therapists/instructors and a registered nurse. He underwent training in California, receiving his license as a Certified Massage Therapist.
While always based in Southern California, Josh has traveled the world, delivering and observing massage and body work therapies from Hawaii to Asia to Europe to Central America. He has met and worked with practitioners of conventional medicine, alternative medicine, Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine, a Shaolin master and a variety of other types of physical, mental and spiritual healing.
Working continually and with a wide variety of clients, Josh realized that each client is unique, and found that no one massage technique met the needs of everyone. He continued to study different massage and bodywork techniques, eventually creating his own unique and highly personalized style of massage incorporating aspects of the many modalities he has studied over the years. The result is a massage that is uniquely tailored to the needs of the specific client.
Intrigued by the various ways in which different people can be helped, Josh also has never settled for only helping one particular type of client. A consummate professional himself, Josh has worked with athletes, entertainers, business executives and a wide range of other professionals.
Through the years Josh has never lost his fascination with people and with discovering how he can best help each individual he works with. Key to his technique is his willingness to listen to his clients so as to fully understand their specific needs and thus select techniques that will most benefit that individual.
His years of experience have shown that rarely does a physical discomfort affect strictly the physical. There is often – even usually – a mental and a spiritual effect as well. And while massage directly treats the physical manifestation, it can also have wide-ranging and positive effects on the mental and spiritual aspect. Most people will agree that it’s hard to fully commit to the pursuit of their endeavors, to focus on tasks, and in some cases do much more than “just try and make it to the end of the day“ when impeded by physical discomfort. Thus Josh’s interest in his client as a whole person, and thus his willingness to listen to his clients so as to really understand what the client is experiencing.
Dubbed “The Magician” on more than one occasion, his results are impressive if not outright startling to his clients. Many say they have never experienced a massage that had such profound or far-reaching effects. And some simply state his massage is the best and leave it at that.
When asked for his “secret” (or “How do you know just where to find all of the spots?” as one client put it) Josh laughed and said “How do I know just where to find all of the spots? Well, if I hadn’t figured that out, I would not still be doing this. I’ve been involved in the healing arts for quite a while and in doing so I’ve gained an intuitive understanding of the body and how it communicates. And by listening to what it tells me, I know what to look for and where to look for it.”
Josh went on to say “It’s pretty simple really - I like people. And I like to see them free from pain, from discomfort, and to help them achieve their goals. I’ve worked with a lot of varied conditions in my years as a therapist, and I’ve listened to a lot of clients. From that I’ve learned what works. There’s really not too much more to it than that. My approach is likely not very common - but nothing great ever really is”.
Maybe what Josh does isn't exactly magic. Maybe it’s just knowledge, skill, experience and a genuine desire to help people. Or magic may be exactly what it is.
Will you experience the kind of results that others have experienced? The only way to know that is to try it for yourself
